Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement medications are given to women who no longer produce their own hormones within their body.  Menopausal women usually take estrogen to help with symptoms such as hot flashes.  They may also receive progestin, a man made version of progesterone, which helps with dryness, itching, burning and painful intercourse. Women who take estrogen may gain protection against osteoporosis, colorectal cancer and heart disease.

There are risks in taking hormone replacement therapy.  Despite the risks, estrogen is still the standard for treating menopausal syndrome and for most women, the risks for hormone replacement therapy is quite low.  Dr. Jacob will gladly review your health profile, discuss the health risks, and make a recommendation or whether or not hormone replacement therapy is right for you
